Christmas Paper Marbling

Let's make a fabulous Room 2 Christmas Tree!

You will need: 

A paper plate, blue and gold paint (in pots), marbles

What to do:

1. Put a marble in each paint pot

1. Use the spoon to get the marble out of the paint

1. Tip the marble onto the plate

1. Roll the marble by tilting the plate

1. Keep rolling until the plate is completely covered with paint

Life Education: Food Aim Game - Testing your knowledge of the Food Pyramid

Fun with the letter Bb

The food pyramid.

We have visited the Life Education Caravan and learned about the food pyramid. We had a lesson with Matua T and we put the food in the right place.

Apple Juice

We chose apples from the ground area of the food pyramid. We put them in the juicer and made apple juice. It was delicious.

Back to school for term 3.

We had squiggles and orange juice for our morning tea to welcome the new term. We also have two new students in our class Kayla and Taine. Our class is getting bigger and bigger!!

Scientific Discovery: Bread

Let's make bread and find out about the fascinating world of yeast and bread baking! We'll have fun watching the yeast come alive while learning about the science behind making bread. This activity will help us develop our fine motor skills as we knead the dough. What joy home cooking can bring when we share the warm bread straight from the oven.

What We Need:

• 4 cups flour, (white, or whole wheat)
• 1.5 cups warm water
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 packet yeast
• Measuring cup
• Measuring spoons
• Greased cookie sheet
• Pastry brush
• 1 Egg, whisked
• Large mixing bowl
• Clean kitchen towel

What We Need To Do:

1. Measure 1 1/2 cups of warm water and pour it into a bowl.
2. Sprinkle yeast into the warm water. Stir it until it softens.
3. Now, measure and add in the flour, sugar and salt.
4. Mix the ingredients until they form a dough ball.
5. On a floured surface, knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic.
6. Make shapes with the dough. Include animals, letters and shapes.
7. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
8. Place the dough shapes on the cookie sheet.
9. Use a clean kitchen towel to cover the cookie sheet to allow the dough to rise until all the pieces are double their original size.
10. Explain how yeast helps make the dough rise.
11. Brush each dough sculpture with a beaten egg.
12. Carefully place the cookie sheet in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
13. Cool, eat and enjoy!

Finding the apple seed case.

We cut an apple in half to find the secret seed case. It was shaped like a star. The star had five points. There were six seeds inside. Brooke said that there were probably 2 seeds in the one case and she was right.
